A Study of Irony in Mansfield Park from the Perspective of Speech Act Theory

根据奥斯汀·塞尔的言语行为理论,结合简·奥斯丁最显著的写作风格反讽,重新解读小说《曼斯菲尔德庄园》。首先介绍语用学中的言语行为理论与反讽的关系,然后对《曼斯菲尔德庄园》中的话语进行分析,说明反讽性的人物对话可在言语行为理论的框架中得到诠释,并分别从言外行为和言后行为视角出发,对小说中的人物性格特征做出鉴析。

This thesis aims to re-elaborate on the most remarkable writing style irony in Jane Austen’s classic literary work, Mans?field Park, on the basis of Austin&Searle’s speech act theory in pragmatics. It introduces the relation between speech act theory in pragmatics and irony at first and then analyzes the utterances in Mansfield Park, which verifies that the irony dialogue can apply through the frame of speech act theory. Moreover, it exposes the traits of character from the perspective of illocutionary act and per?locutionary act.
