有人说翻译是一门科学,有人说翻译是一门艺术。我们知道,科学在于求真,艺术在于求美。既然翻译既是科学又是艺术,那么,翻译的宗旨则是既要追求真又要追求美。所谓求真,用翻译的行话说就是,搞翻译既要一丝不苟地求真求实,又要精益求精地追求译文的好与美。为此,从学习翻译起,就要学会细心观察,勤于思考,认真分析。否则就难以达到译文的真与美。该文拟通过举例说明,在翻译实践中需要仔细观察,认真分析才能透彻理解原文并能做出准确达意的翻译。

People differ in their attitudes towards translation. Some hold that translation is a science while others think translationis an art. As far as we are concerned, the aim of science lies in the pursuit of truth, however, the aim of art lies in the pursuit ofbeauty. Therefore, conclusion can be drawn that the aim of translation should be both the pursuit of truth and beauty if translationhas the characteristics of both. When it comes to the pursuit of truth, technically, it means that translation should aim at pursuingtruth in a meticulous way; in the meantime, the translation should aim at perfection and beauty. For this purpose, the translatorsshould learn to be observant, be diligent in thinking so as to make a thorough analysis. Otherwise, it is hard to realize truth andbeauty of the translation. The paper aims to make readers have an understanding of how an accurate and expressive translation canbe realized by providing practical examples. The key to achieving this purpose is in being observant and making a thorough analy-sis in the process of translation.
