摘要 国内对古英语诗歌的修辞手法kenning的语义分析鲜有述介。笔者注意到国外学界对kenning语义区分的细致关注,在该文中梳理了定义kenning的过程中突显出的kenning的重要特征,包括复合、婉言、隐喻和转喻四个维度。Kenning语义的复杂性来自于复合词的整合效应。而语言学中的概念整合理论涉及对复合概念整合后的认知问题。有克罗地亚学者Vlatko Broz运用概念整合理论来解释kenning含义的生成过程,得出kenning的语义是由隐喻关系的中心词和转喻关系的修饰词这两个成分构成的复合词关系。笔者认为,尽管运用概念整合理论模型对理解kenning语义的解释还不完善,却为语言学研究方法引入古英语文学研究提供了新的思路。 The discussion on the definition of kenning is not of much concern domestically. However, it draws attention to the dis?tinction of kenning from other figure of speech in literature in western historical linguistic studies. Due to the scant information of studies on kenning, this paper serves as a diachronic introduction on the recent studies on the analysis of kenning’s semantics, which includes four aspects:compounds, euphemism, metaphor and metonymy. It also introduces the progress made by Vlatko Broz who applies conceptual blending theory by Gilles Fauconnier and Mark Turner to the analysis on kenning. The opening-up method?ology from linguistic to the study of English literature is thought provoking both for the scholars from linguistic studies and literary studies.
