19世纪末的美国城市见证了越来越多的女性走出家门,在外工作。城市工业和经济的发展使得女性的社会生活方式与传统的价值观和意识形态有所差异。美国城市女性虽然在社会生活中做出了不懈的努力和尝试,希望改善她们的社会经济地位,然而现实生活证明了她们理想的平等而和谐的两性关系是一条漫长的道路。

The 19 th century saw more women work outside their homes in American cities. The progress of industrialization and ur-ban economy caused changes in women's life style distinctly brilliant from traditional values and ideology. Although Americanwomen made a series of efforts to improve their socioeconomic status, there proved to be a long run for a coordinative and harmoni-ous relationship between sexes.
