Ou Yangxiu’s The Old Drunkard’s Arbour is of high artistic value in the history of Chinese literature. There are many translators at home and abroad translated his works into English. However, studies on the translated versions are scanty, especial-ly from the perspective of metaphor. This paper analyzes the translation of metaphor in Herbert A Giles’s The Old Drunkard’s Arbour based on Peter · Newmark’s metaphor theory. It points out that translation is not only the transformation between two lan-guages, but also between functions, which can make the target readers have a similar feeling with the original readers.
