Appraisal tells how speakers feel and think about other people or things.The resources of appraisal can function for negotiating social relationship.Therefore,it is available to apply the Appraisal System to analyzing the discourses selected from A Passage to India that gains praise for its description about interpersonal relationship.Based on the appraisal expressions in this novel,factors influencing people's connection can be analyzed.Sincerity is an indispensible element of building relationship,but search of inner heart is the key to protecting and maintaining it.
