According to Leech and Short's method of stylistic analysis, The Chaser can be analyzed from four linguistic categories: lexical features, grammatical features, figures of speech, and cohesion and context, which, applied to the text of the story,are interpreted as the author's subtle choice of language, artful use of irony, masterly dialogues and remarkable instabilities. The four categories help to portray the characters, reveal the theme, endow the text with a kind of uniqueness and ultimately contribute to the interest and readability of this excellent short story.
