Aristotle's theory of tragedy is advocated by many western scholars and has exerted tremendous influence on the modern play writing and tragic studies. The present thesis will use the theory of Aristotle to analyze the tragic plot in"A Dream of Red Mansions"in order to investigate whether there is any similarity between Chinese and western tragedies.
