The Use of Mercenary Troops by The Government in Qing Dynasty

在借师助剿的背景下 ,清廷对雇佣军的态度经历了一个从反对到赞成的变化过程。雇佣军合法化以后 ,清政府比较重视对雇佣军的控制 ,一方面约束洋将 ,对使用洋将作出相关规定 ;另一方面则是将人数控制在一定规模上。

The government of Qing Dynasty used foreign troops to exterminate the uprising of the TaiPing Heavenly Kingdom. Its attitude towards mercenary troops covered the distance from opposition to approval. The use of mercenary troops also reflected the standing point of the government on the matter. After the use of mercenary troops was legalized ,the government of Qing Dynasty paid great attention to the control of mercenary troops, which was reflected in the regulations about the choosing of foreign commanders and the number of soldiers restricted to a regular size.
