板桥道情作于郑燮一生中最为困顿偃蹇之时 ,作者以儒道互补为人生的精神支柱。其词通俗易懂 ,其意深沉宏远 ,具有纵观千载的历史意识和醒世觉人的劝诫作用。

Zheng Xie, one of the 'Eight Eccentric Painters' of the Qing Dynastry, styled himself 'Taoist Banqiao'. He composed ten songs of Daoqings, in which words are ordinary but pregnant with meanings.Drawing materials from history and his family background,the writer intended in his works to rouse the public.For more than two hundred years, his Daoqing has been very popular and has been very instructive up to now.(Note: Daoqing means chanting folk tales to the accompaniment of percussion instruments; sanqu, a popular opera in the Yuan Dynasty-tr.)
