J. H. Miller, one of the representatives of American deconstructionists and of the Yale School, makes a penetrating analysis, in his book entitled Fiction and Repetition, of the meaning that kinds of repetitions and recurrences create in novels. This paper on the one hand makes a cultural and philosophic examination of Miller's theory to show the historical reasons for this theory, and on the other hand, it makes systematic analysis of Miller's understanding of Plato's and Nietzche's assumptions of repetition and the interrelationship between the two assumptions. The paper concludes that the key to the understanding of textual meaning should be done on the basis of recognizing the internal and external framework of repetition and the author's psychological factors in his work as well.
