WANG Chuan-shan——The Crucial Person During the Ancient and Modern Neo-confucianism In Hunan's Transition

船山在湘学发展史上占有重要地位 ,突出表现是使在元、明两代沉寂了数百年的湖湘学得以继承、发扬和复盛 ,并一直影响到近代湘学 ,因此说 ,船山是古代湘学过渡到近代湘学的关键人物。这具体还可从以下几方面得到论证 :一是船山继承和传递了湘学性理哲学与经世之学相结合、内圣外王并重的精神特质和学风 ;二是船山在湘学发展中起承上启下的作用 ;

WANG Chuan-shan played an important role in the history of the development of Neo-confucianism in Hunan. Chuan-shan inherited and carried forward the theory of Neo-confucianism in Hunan which was quiet for a few hundreds years between the Yuan Dynasty and the Ming Dynasty, flourished it again and influnced on the modern Neo-confucianism in Hunan. We can say that he was the crucial person during the ancient and modern Neo-confucianism's transition. We proved this point by the following three aspects. Chuan-shan carried on and transmitted the spiritual essence and the style of study of Neo-confucianism in Hunan, which combined Neo-confucianism with the theory of governing, paid equal attention to the self-possession and achievements. He formed a connecting link between the development of Neo-confucianism in Hunan. And we also can see his special and important role to Neo-confucianism through the profound contradition of nationalism.
