The Evolution of Southwest China's Ethnic Relations from the Perspective of the Alliance of Ethnic Sovereigns in Tang Dynasty

西南地区自古是多民族聚居区 ,在历史发展进程中 ,西南各民族也在不断地发展和变化 ,在这一过程中 ,汉民族对其影响较大 ,因而中原汉族与西南各民族的关系发展成为西南民族关系发展的一条主线。唐朝时期 ,中原汉族与西南民族关系的发展进入了一个全新的阶段 ,贞元会盟又是其中的重要事件。

Southwest China has been a multi-ethnic region since ancient times. During the historical development, these ethnic groups had undergone constant changes, which owed much to the influence from the Han people. Therefore, the development of the relationship between the Han of the Central Plain and the southwest ethnic groups has become a dominant factor influencing the relations among the southwest ethnic people. In Tang Dynasty, the relationship between the Han of the Central Plain and the southwest ethnic groups had been radically changed, largely resulted from the formation of the ethnic sovereigns alliance.
