This thesis queries whether metaphor is a rhetorical figure. The writer thinks that metaphor isn′t a rhetorical figure according to the present definition of the rhetorical figure for the metaphor doesn′t accord with the double demands, specific result and specific form. Metaphor hasn′t the form mark. The thesis points out that the definition of the rhetorical figure should be revised if we continue to regard metaphor as a rhetorical figure.
