Influences of fire weapons on the development of military and Wushu as seen from General Qijiguang's New Thoughts on the War in fourteen volumes

十四卷本《纪效新书》是戚继光晚年整理成书的著作,以前较为少见。十四卷本较之流行的十八卷本有许多改动,与武术发展有关的重要改动有二:一是将枪法从"长兵短用"中移至了"短兵长用"中;二是删去了"拳经捷要篇"。这些改动说明火器的发展对军事技术的巨大影响,同时也为以后的武术发展提供了条件和营养。

New Thoughts on the War in fourteen volumes was written in the late years of Qijiguang. There were many amendments in it compared with the one in eighteen volumes. There were two amendments concerning Wushu. One was the change of 'the long weapons used as the short ones' into 'the short weapons used as the long ones'. The other was the deletion of 'the Chinese boxing in the war'. These amendments demonstrated the influence of the fire weapons on the development of the military technology and Wushu.
