Objective: To study the relationship between telomerase activity in cultured arteriolar smooth muscle cell of essential hypertension patients and pathogenesis of essential hypertension. Methods:PCR- ELISA was applied to detect telomerase activity of cultured mesenteric arteriolar smooth muscle cells in 10 cases of essential hypertension and 8 cases of normal blood pressure. Results: Positive rate of telomerase activity was 90% (9/10) in 10 cases of hypertension and 25% (2/8) in cases of normal blood pressure. Conclusion: Telomerase activity expression can be observed in cultured arteriolar smooth muscle cells in essential hypertension patients . Telomerase activity may be involved in the pathogenesis of essential hypertension.
