On the Death of Chen Zilong and the Intelligentsia's Attitude Towards Death in the Late Ming Dynasty

该文通过研析陈子龙最后阶段所作的诗文及其传记资料,勾勒他生命最后的轨迹,探究他生命终结前的心念。且因为他具备文人、官吏、义士等多重身份,有着丰富曲折的人生经历和敏感细腻的情感,在明末士人中颇具典型性,故又借此一探明末社会知识分子面对生死抉择时的心态。

This thesis examines Chen Zilong's life experience in his late years and his final attitude towardslife and death by reviewing and analyzing his last writings and his biographies. Because he was a famous litterateur, an official, and a righteous person, he was arrested by the Manchu Army. Being the representative of the intelligentsia in the Late Ming Dynasty, Chen Zilong had rich and complex life experience and delicate sensitiveness. Furthermore, the thesis discusses the intelligentsia's attitudetowards death in general at that time through probing into Chen Zilong's thought.
