Safety Assessment of Food Derived from Insect-protected Bt-176 Corn

转基因抗虫玉米Bt-176具有抗鳞翅目尤其玉米螟等害虫及耐草铵膦除草剂等特性。自1995年在美国首次准许无限制种植以来,Bt-176玉米已经在许多国家和地区大面积种植并作为食品和饲料广泛应用。本文从导入基因及表达蛋白的特征、毒理学研究及营养成分分析入手,探讨了Bt-176玉米的食用安全性。

Bt-176 corn was developed by Syngenta (formerly Novartis) and is an lepidopteran pest-protected, phosphinothri- cin tolerant corn line. Bt-176 has been unprihibitedly produced as food and feed in many countries since 1995. In the paper, the safety assessment was summarized as the following issues: (1) the nature of the genetic modification; (2) general safety issues such as novel protein expression and the potential for transfer of novel genetic material to cells in the human digestive tract; (3) toxicological issues; and (4) nutritional issues.
