The paper reviews the history and existing status of computer integrated manufacturing in the process industry, and describes the features of process industry and discrete manufacturing industry. As the action and function of MES (Manufacturing ExecutiveSystem) in the process industry is discussed, some technologies which are popular in the process industry are given and OLP (On Line Optimization system) and PSES (Production Schedule Expert System) are emphatically explored. Finally, a conclusion is made that CIMS (Computer Integrated Manufacturing System) should be realized in the enterprises of process industry step by step.
