The differences between qualitative study and quantitative study were elaborated. Qualitative approach came from naturalism and humanism and focuses on understanding and explaining the natural scenes as a whole. Descriptive analysis is taken as the basis of the qualitative approach and common conclusions are drawn from the specific sight. Qualitative approach emphasizes the relationships between behavior, phenomenon and their background, the process of their changes and the meaning that behaviors and phenomena have towards the actors.Through real examples the significance of qualitative study in sport science researches was discussed.
