Social-Cultural Considerations in Translation Criticism

译者的双重文化身份使他不可能完全忽视译语的社会文化因素 ,相反 ,译语的社会文化因素在一定程度上制约着译者对原文的理解和阐释。社会文化因素在意识形态、文学传统和规范、文化价值观三方面对译者的影响 ,翻译批评理论体系中应涵盖这些方面 ,以便对译文作出客观、科学。

The bicultural identity of the translator makes it impossible for him to ignore completely the target social cultural factors. Actually, they dominate to some extent the translator's comprehension and interpretation of the source text. Social cultural factors influence the translator in terms of ideology, literary tradition and norms, and cultural values. These factors should be taken into consideration in the theoretical system of translation criticism for an objective, scientific and holistic evaluation of a translation.
