由于自然环境和物产不同,形成了东西方不同的文化,中西饮食便沿着各自的道路发展起来。传统的西方文化是一种畜牧文化和海洋文化,中国文化则是一种农耕文化和陆地文化,两种不同的文化反映出人们生产生活空间和方式的差异,其中饮食是具有代表性的一个方面,从菜单命名使用的词汇即可略见一斑。

The paper explores the dietary differences between China and English speaking countries by comparing the cookery nomenclature and law out of the menu in the two cultures. The writer proposes six principles to follow and seven methods to employ in translating the Chinese menu. 
