In this article,an analysis is devoted to what scholarly research means,what a scholar should be and what special qualities a scholar should possess.When pursuing his or her studies,a scholar must in the first place think independently,submitting only to the truth and never following anyone or anything blindly.The key element for fine scholarship is 'seeking the truth'.To achieve this end,a scholar must be practical and realistic,never glossing over his or her faults and always taking great care not to let his or her academic results turn alien.As far as research methods are concerned,the most fundamental one is to hold on strict scientific methods.The article suggests 16 concrete methods for doing scholarly research,which will help one keep improving in pursuing his or her studies.
