Takes structural design of a hospital in Kuwait as an example,the appilcation of American codes in structural design was introduced from three aspects of background,materials and loads,especially the calculation methods of thermal loads and seismic loads under American codes. There is also some comparison between American codes and Chinese codes for the convenience of Chinese domestic engineers to understand and use American codes in oversea projects.
