Based on the application and method of total station, this paper enumerates the development status, prospect and application of total station in trigonometric leveling. At the same time, it also lists the development prospects of traditional instruments, and constantly finds out the problems in the research process, and summarizes and analyzes them to guide the specific use of total station in the future surveying and mapping practice, so that it has been widely promoted.
