《汉书·刑法志》内容主要是关于法的起源、法律制度发展的历史及其变革的概况 ,尤其是关于前汉以来各个帝王刑罚改革的情况 ,其理论基调对后世史书“刑法志”各篇的走向产生了重要影响。《汉书·刑法志》不但是我们研究汉代司法制度和司法实践的重要史料 。

The Criminal Annals of the History of the Han Dynasty basically covers the origin of law, the history and change of the development of legal systems, especially the reforms of criminal punishments by the various emperors since the Pre-Han Dynasty. Its theoretical keynote exerted strong influence on the development of criminal annals for later generations. The Criminal Annals of the History of the Han Dynasty are not only historiographic materials for our research of the judiciary system and judiciary practices but also important documentation for the researches of the relationship between morality and law, especially the profound Confucian ideas embodied therein.
