The Tonghai’s Local Culture and the Spreading of Roman Catholic Church in Nantong Region

通海文化特指南通、海门一带的地域性文化,其文化基本特质是一种巫文化。近代以来,在南通开明士绅张謇的推动下,通海文化实现了由巫文化向现代文化的转型。天主教作为一种外来的异质文化,它在南通地区的传播过程中,与通海文化相互融合,开创了别具特色的本地化实践,成为近现代天主教本地化运动的地标和重镇。南通、海门天主教的本地化经验,为反思当今天主教中国化之议题,凝聚天主教共识具有借鉴意义。

The Tonghai culture mainly refers to the regional culture of Nantong and Haimen,and its basic cultural characteristics are a kind of witch culture.In modern times,the Tonghai culture has transformed from the witch culture to modern culture due to the efforts of Zhangjian who was a liberalminded gentlemen in Nantong.Roman Catholic,as an alien heterogeneous culture,has been integrated with Tonghai culture in the process of its spreading in Nantong.It created a unique practice of localization(Indigenizzazione)and became an important landmark in modern Catholic localization movement.The local experience of Catholic localization in Nantong and Haimen is of great significance for reflecting on the Sinicization of Roman Catholic,and building up the Catholic consensus.
