王禹偁和欧阳修有着相似的人生轨迹。和王禹偁一样,欧阳修不满晚唐五代以来士风之不振,以儒家十分积极的入世态度,投入变革现实的斗争。他们极力倡导君子风范,以求道取义的名节观念、行道救时的责任意识和守道不屈的人格精神为主要内容。欧受王的影响,重视儒学传统,更注重儒道致用的品格;对文的作用给予更多的重视,更强调文的平易自然。作为重建儒学信仰和推动诗文革新的先驱,王禹偁对欧阳修和宋代士大夫人格精神的熏陶和诗文创作的影响是不可忽视的。

Wang Yucheng and Ouyang Xiu had a similar course of life. Like Wang Yucheng, Ouyang Xiu was not satisfied with the low morale that had prevailed since the late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties that followed it. With a positive Confucian attitude, he threw himself into the struggle of transforming the reality. The two writers advocated the style of a gentleman, and their works were characterized with the concepts of reputation and uncompromising efforts, sense of responsibility for salvation of times with moral principles, and the undaunted spirit. Influenced by Wang Yucheng, Ouyang Xiu attached great importance to Confucian tradition, with emphasis on the application of the Confucian doctrines. He paid much attention to the function of prose, stressing an easy, plain and natural style. As the pioneer of reestablishing Confucian belief and promoting the reform of poems and prose, Wang Yucheng exerted great influence on Ouyang Xiu and the gentlemen in the Song Dynasty in terms of their character formation, and the creation of literary works. His influence on these literary men should not be overlooked.
