论《喜福会》中中国形象的双重性

A Study of the Double Image of China in The Joy Luck Club

从两个方面对谭恩美在《喜福会》中塑造的中国形象进行解读:一方面,由于西化的思维和生活方式,加之对中国文化存在一定的迷惑和误解,谭恩美对所表述的中国形象有歪曲和批判之处;但另一方面,无法改变的华人文化身份,强烈的中国文化意识以及主流社会的种族歧视又使谭恩美在一定程度上颠覆了西方社会传统的中国套话,从而塑造了中国形象的双重性。

This paper intends to analyze the image of China in The Joy Luck Club.On the one hand.Because of Amy Tan’s internalized western perspective and her confusion and misunderstanding of Chinese culture,she distorts and criticizes the image of China.However,on the other hand,her unchangeable Chinese cultural identity and strong Chinese cultural consciousness as well as the racial discrimination in American society make her break stereotypes of the Chinese image in some aspects.Thus she finally created a double image of China in this novel.
