The current status of rural community informatization in China’s developed areas

摘要 The authors conducted a questionnaire investigation in 11 rural communities based on indexes of assessing current status of rural community informatization in the Southern developed areas of Jiangsu province.Conclusions include:coverage of information infrastructure in rural communities of developed areas is significantly higher than the national average level and even the national average level of urban and rural areas;personal expenditure on information is within the scope of villagers’ financial expenditure;information technology investment is mainly used for information network platform and infrastructure construction and improvement;rural investment in information resources is relatively small;overall capacity of information resources is limited and not fully utilized and there is also a lack of information specialists.In addition,the information literacy of villagers needs to be improved and their information needs are mainly about news and entertainment;television and Internet are their principal means of acquiring information.Suggestions include:attach more importance to the development of information resources,provide information technology personnel,conduct research on the information needs of rural residents and improve their information literacy.
