Qian Zhong-shu is a critical writer with the art of satire, his work exposes the dark side of society, the irony of people as well as human nature. 'Besieged City' is his novel which has most far-reaching significance and influence. In the novel, Qian Zhong-shu used humorous language, and critical satiric art and exposes and criticizes the malpractice of the old society, namely social norms and institutions, social ethics and moral, cultural development and inheritance, characters and disadvantages. In this work, the writing technique and application of irony art has been pushed to a higher level.
