On the role of context in meaning construction process by a case study of English word “black”

认知语言学家一直在研究语境在理解语言单位时的作用。他们认为语言单位只有在运用中才有意义,语境在意义构建过程中是第一重要因素,自始至终起到指导作用。本文通过对于英语单词"black"实例分析证明了这种观点的合理性。

Cognitive linguists has long studied the role of context in the interpretation of language unit;they hold the position that word means something only in use and think that context comes first and directs the meaning construction process all the way.Here the author provides evidence for this claim by a case study on the meaning of the word 'black'.
