Female characters interpretation in Tan En-mei's “The Kitchen God's Wife” from trauma theory perspective

美国华裔女作家谭恩美继处女作《喜福会》大获成功后,第二部长篇小说《灶神之妻》也赢得了美国主流读者群的一致好评。小说讲述了以江微丽为代表的女性人物在战争期间及在美国经历的一系列创伤事件。本文从创伤理论角度分析小说中江微丽,胡兰等女性人物的创伤经历,挖掘作者对女性命运的深切关怀,对封建思想以及非人性战争的批判。

After debut of 'The Joy Luck Club', Chinese American female writer Tan En-mei published her second novel 'The Kitchen God's Wife', which also won the American mainstream readers favourable comment. The novel tells a series of traumatic events women experienced during the war and in the United States, with Jiang Wei-li as the representative. From the perspective of trauma theory, this paper analyzes the traumatic experiences of the female characters, such as Jiang Wei-li, Hu Lan, and so on. It explores the author's deep concern for the fate of women and the criticism of the feudal ideology and the inhuman war.
