Sylvia Plath,one of the most famous confessional poets in the Western world, suffering much more pain during her growing process, formed her pessimism thinking, which was influenced by the pessimistic philosophers and other confessional poets. 'Point Shirley', is a poem to mourn her departed grandmother, which is full of strong pessimistic color. This paper analyzes how her pessimism thinking is reflected in 'Point Shirley', specifically from the images, tone and the words of color of it.
