In the field of translation theory, functional equivalence is one of the most famous translation theories. It also has profound guiding significance for the people engaged in translation industry in the process of translation. As a qualified interpreter, the most important thing is to have a more profound understanding and cognition for the cultural background of the different languages. This paper gives a detailed explanation of the functional theory and the characteristics of British and American literary translation, and probes into the corresponding strategies of Anglo-American literary translation based on the functional equivalence theory. I hope to make a little contribution to the translation of British and American literature.
