Building Standards(Ying Zao Fa Shi):Two Pieces of Notes

本文包含两则关于宋代《营造法式》的研究札记。《营造法式》大木作制度中八个材等的划定究竟采用了何种方法,是建筑史学界不断尝试解读诠释的一个问题,第一则札记试图表明古代木构建筑的用材与建筑开间尺寸(间广)之间存在着一定的对应关系,因此在划分材等时也很可能基于这方面的考虑,使之适用于比较常用的间广尺寸。第二则札记则是关于《营造法式》小木作制度中的一处条文,认为其中有可能存在文字前后错置的现象。

The grading of the eight sizes or grades of modules(cai)for major carpentry(da mu zuo)in the Building Standards(YJng Zao Fa Shi)of the Song Dynasty has remained a subject to interpret for historians of Chinese architecture.The first of the two pieces of notes tries to argue that the grading of modules may take the usual widths of a bay into consideration,since it was closely related to the size of timbres used in ancient Chinese wood structures.The other piece discusses one regulation on minor carpentry which may contain texts in a wrong order.
