After brief introduction to COM technology and OPC specification, the advantages of open architecture CNC system that is based on COM and OPC are described in this paper. A hierarchical model and workflow of the open architecture CNC system are presented. According to this model and workflow, the software and hardware architectures of an example system are studied. The hardware of the example adopts DSP motion control card self-developed, the software architecture uses COM technology, and the hardware driver program conforms to OPC specification.
