Talking with Storytelling Master Shan Tianfang

单田芳,原名单传忠,著名评书表演艺术大师,国家级非物质文化遗产代表性传承人。原鞍山市曲艺团业务团长,现任北京市曲艺家协会名誉主席。1934年生于天津曲艺世家,同年随父母到沈阳,19岁拜沈阳评书艺人李庆海为师,取艺名单田芳。1954年来到鞍山,1956年随鞍山曲艺团正式登台演出,20世纪60年代在鞍山乃至省内家喻户晓。1987年退休,1995年赴京创办北京单田芳艺术传播有限责任公司。

In June 2008, An shan Storytelling(Pingshu) was formally included into the representative list of national intangible cultural heritage. Shan Tianfang was designated by the Ministry of Culture as a representative inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage in June 2009. Since then, I formed ties with Mr. Shan. During his career lasting for over 60 years, he has recorded and broadcast over 110 new and traditional storytelling items, and broadcast more than 12,000 episodeson radio and TV, covering 530-odd broadcasting stations, 800-plus channels and nearly 700 million listeners. He has tidied out and compiled 28 kinds of traditional storytelling manuscripts into some 20 sets. He took the lead in launching storytelling on the market and combining the storytelling art with animation industry. "Shan Tianfang’s Storytelling" has become an important symbol of traditional Chinese culture. In October 2014, "Viewing Today with Mr. Shan—Shan Tianfang’s Storytelling Art Seminar" was held in Anshan.
