Whither the Euro?

对于美国而言,欧洲自经济危机以来一直表现不佳。这引起了人们对欧元前景越来越大的担忧。目前欧元区的这种状态在政治上是不可持续的。要改变这种状况,欧元区现在面临着选择:成立政治上的欧洲联邦或者回归到一个不采用单一货币的欧盟。无论选择哪一条道路,都需要尽快作出抉择。

In contrast with the United States, the economy of the euro area has been underperforming since the European sovereign debt crisis and this has led to widespread concerns over the prospects for the euro. The current status of the euro zone is politically unsustainable. In order to change the situation, policymakers in the euro zone must choose between establishing a political European federal union and returning to a union without a 'single currency'. No matter which method is chosen, the decision should be made as soon as possible.
