The landscape of central banking has changed considerably over the last three decades. More recently, the global financial crisis has demonstrated that the two main tasks of central banks – managing monetary policy and ensuring financial stability – often affect each other. Central banks need to be sure that their policies lead to accelerated economic recovery. That means that adjustments in the economic and financial structure cannot be avoided.
