Books with Copyright Stamps:the Reflection of Chinese Copyright System

发明了印刷术的中国虽然从宋代起就有了版权保护的案例,但近代版权制度、版权法却产生于西方。在中国,版权票的使用早于版权法的诞生。最早的版权协议和版权票发生在严复与上海文明书局和商务印书馆之间,从晚清、民国到建国初,版权票在中国共行用了五十余年时间。版权票类型丰富,版权票的价值不仅表现在它在推动、催生中国著作权制度产生与实施过程中不同寻常的意义,同时它本身也是精美的艺术品,并与图书一起见证着时代的风云变幻。在今天,作为一个时代的记忆,又具有特殊的收藏和研究价值。

Though China invented printing and had cases of protecting copyright since the Song Dynasty,modern copyright system and related laws found their origin in the West.In China,the use of copyright stamps appeared earlier than copyright laws,and the first copyright agreement and stamps were used between Yan Fu and Shanghai Civilization Publishing House and The Commercial Press.Copyright stamps has a history of over 50 years from the late Qing Dynasty,the Republic of China(1912-1949)till the foundation of the People’s Republic of China,forming a variety of different types.Not only did it play an extraordinary role in the production and practice of Chinese copyright system,as a piece of artwork itself,it also witnessed the changes of society and time along with books.Conveying the memory of an era,books with copyright stamps have special collection and study values nowadays.
