“Illustrious Virtue” and “Modern People” For the Center of Zhu Xi's Interpretation of the Great Learning

"明德"与"新民"在《大学》"三纲领"中至关重要。朱子于《大学章句》中对二者的理解与阐发,将"明德"所具有的心性内涵、"新民"而不是"亲民"的内在义理,以及"明德"与"新民"之间的关系加以表述,这不仅是朱子思想的独特之处,更是朱子对孔孟传统儒家精神的发扬。

'Illustrious virtue' and 'modern people' are of paramount importance to the triple guiding principles of The Great Learning. In his great work Interpretation of the Great Learning, Zhu Xi illustrates the connotation of temperament of 'illustrious virtue', the argumentation of 'modern people'( not 'renovating people'), as well as the relationship between them. This not only shows Zhu Xi's characteristic thoughts but also a development of Confucius and Mencius spirits.
