There have been many reports on estimates of errors for splines. As to the asymptotic expansion, a fundamental problem, as we know, the results are not enough. We discussed this problem in a previous paper. J. W. Daniel, too, studied the same topic (AD-786226 and AD-786228). But the results obtained are not satiafactory.
