Acanthopanax senticosus (Rupr. et Maxim.) Harms or Eleutherococcus senticosus Maxim (Araliaceae) is a small tree and is widely distributed in the northeast area of our country. The roots of this plant are commonly used in Chinese traditional medicine as tonics as well as sedative agent and was named Ci Wu Jia.
