The problem of wave propagation in a heterogeneous medimn, ineluding calculations of near-field seismograms and interacion of waves with man-made structures ornatural structures, etc, is an important problem in seismology and earthquake engineering. Interest in applying discrete methods to this problem has been greatly growing and a number of schemes of the treatment of the artificial boundaries of a finite computational rogion have been proposed over the last few years.
