APPLICATION OF REGIONAL CULTURES IN ARCHITECTURES: A CASE OF SUZHOU ANCIENT RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS

苏州民居在中国民居发展史上占有重要的地位,是东方古民居发展的缩影,也是世界古民居发展的主要渊源之一。它的建构内涵覆盖了自然科学和社会科学领域的众多方面,同时,由于苏州古民居必须以实体的存在体现价值,以群体的形式构成研究体系,故结构完整、保存完好的苏州古民居,是研究和了解中国历史、传统文化及其对世界文化影响作用的重要实物资料,是苏州作为历史文化名城的主要元素之一。

Suzhou residential buildings play an important role in the development of Chinese residential architectures, which prove to be a microcosm of the development of oriental ancient residential buildings, as well as one of the main development sources of ancient residential buildings around the world. Suzhou residential buildings’ connotation of construction covers many aspects including the natural science and social science. At the same time, Suzhou ancient residential buildings are required to present their values in forms of entity and be a research system in groups, which makes it significant physical materials for Suzhou ancient residential buildings preserved well with complete structures to research and understand Chinese history, traditional cultures and impacts on global cultures. Meanwhile, it proves Suzhou to be one of the keys elements of being one historical and cultural city.
