东晋时期,随着般若学的广泛流传,许多接受过良好教育的知识分子投身到僧人队伍中,诗歌这种文学形式逐渐被引入宗教领域,成为宗教文化的重要组成部分。僧诗重在说理,受"佛玄合流"思潮的影响,说理形式呈现出"以玄释佛"的特点。同时,自然山水景物也被引入诗歌,成为诗人顿悟佛理禅机的客观意象。

During the Eastern Jin Dynasty, with the wide spread of Prajna, many well-educated intellectuals joined in the ranks of the Buddhist monks, the poetry as a literary form was introduced into the field of religion and has become an important part of religious culture. Buddhist poems focused on argumentation, which presented the features of expounding Buddhism with metaphysics, influenced by the thoughts of the confluence of Buddhist and metaphysics. At the same time,the natural landscape page was also introduced into poetry, becoming the objective image of Zen Buddhist poets' epiphany.
