Hexia of Huai’an County is a historical town near the Great Cannel and Xiaohu Lake.In Ming and Qing Dynasty, more than 100 private gardens were built in Hexia with wonderful buildings, rockeries, water landscapes, plants, inscribed boards and couplets, presenting different cultural connotations and local characters. It is a pity that all of the gardens were demolished in the late period of Qing Dynasty.Basing on the old archives and books, the author tries to analyze the historical background and design ideas of the gardens in Hexia, and explore their cultural connotations.
