Approaches and Arguments on the Eight Grades Cai and Cai-fen System of the Yingzao Fashi-A Review

《营造法式》注释工作始于梁思成,以后的研究著作均直接受益于梁思成的《营造法式注释》。成系统的研究当以陈明达的《营造法式大木作研究》为最早。自20世纪80年代初,建筑史界开始争议《营造法式》八等材和材份制问题——对《法式》文字的不同理解发展为不同假说之间的辩论。本文回顾这三十余年的假说,包括作者在20世纪90年代提出的八等材内在关系,简评争议所在和意义。

The Annotated Yingzao Fashi by Liang Sicheng paved the way for architectural research.In depth researches on the Yingzao fashi began in the early 1980 s,with a book entitled a Study on the Structural Carpentry System According to Yingzao Fashi by Chen Mingda,which was followed with a series of papers by various researchers interpreting the eight grades cai and the cai-fen system from different standpoints.This paper summarizes the discussions in the past three decades,aiming at giving a brief retrospective review on the scholarship regarding these issues and the results.The paper includes a description on the interrelationship among the eight grades of cai proposed by the author in the 1990s.
