The paper is based on historical documents, and follows the logic of Chinese historical culture as well as the structural logic of ancient Chinese wood frame building. The aim of the paper is to explore the possible original forms and structures of the front halls of the Qing-dynasty Afang Palace and the Han-dynasty Weiyang and Changle palaces. The purpose of this research is not to recover these buildings to their original state but to discuss whether they were ever built and how they could have looked like according to the structural and constructional logic of the time. Only then can we understand the puzzling records about them in historical literature.
